Collegiate Weight Throw Rankings Updated

The final Collegiate update is the 35lb. Weight Throw. The rankings now include 2011 performances. 2011 held another state record for OU standout K.P. Singh. Singh hurled the weight 70-8.5 for the #1 all-time ranking. Norman’s Cameron Tabor (Pictured) (TCU) also improved his performance to 56-3.75, holding down the #4 spot. I will get to the High School rankings next, but it will take some time. Congrats to everyone who jumped up, or on, the Open or Collegiate All-Time rankings in 2011.

Return of the Man

I have competed in 20 Sooner State Games track meets now, and the most fun I’ve had was easily the 2011 edition. While I didn’t throw particularly well for a variety of reasons, the competition was outstanding and the turnout was great. The highlight of the day was the return to the ring of Oklahoma’s All-Time Best Discus thrower, Ed Wade. Wade competed with the 2k Discus in the 45-49 age group and did not disappoint. On his fifth attempt, Ed sailed the discus over 160′ for a new age group State record. In the Open division, OU standout Luke Bryant took the gold medal, TCU’s Cameron Tabor (Norman HS) got second & OU’s Conrad Aaron (Ardmore HS) returned to the Discus ring with a third place finish. Also competing with the collegiate implements was recent Norman North graduate, Tyler Sergent. Tyler, who won the State Championship in the Shot, had an impressive initial effort with the 16lb. Shot, throwing 53’2″. Other outstanding performances were turned in by Darron Hummingbird, Sheppard Miers, Lee Greiner & Dan Houtman. This turnout was inspiring and I look forward to Oklahoma Age Group throwers continuing to grow in numbers. (PICTURED L-R: Luke Bryant, Conrad Aaron, John Fitzgerald, Cameron Tabor, Tyler Sergent & Ed Wade)

NCAA CHAMPION!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

While we don’t feature rankings for the female throwers on this site, it’s not because they aren’t equally important. Quite frankly, it’s because I haven’t been able to take the time to research the history of the women’s/girl’s events. I hope to some day, but for now we will just have to settle for an occasional update Could there be a better place to start than the incredible performance by OU Junior, Brittany Borman at the NCAA Championships today? She won the school’s first ever women’s title in a throwing event. Borman threw the Javelin over 178′ on her fourth attempt to outdistance the runner-up by over 6 feet. Congratulations to Brittany and to the OU Track and Field program. Amazing!!!

New OVERALL State Shotput Record!!!!

Kevin Bookout threw the all-time best throw by an Okie with the 16lb. shot yesterday at the USATF State Championships in Arizona. Kevin threw the big ball 66′.5″ in his best effort to date. This broke the record held by former OSU Cowboy, and World’s Strongest Man winner, Bruce Wilhelm by a quarter of an inch. In 1972, Wilhelm thew 66′.25″. Kevin told me this morning that he fouled one that was around 67′. Bookout is training at John Godina’s World Throws Center in Arizona, and obviously, making some progress. Congrats Kevin!!!!!!!

The Stanford Sophomore from Ardmore threw 187’4″ with the 2K disc. Also qualifying in the Discus was KP Singh. Singh placed 12th with a throw of 178’7″. In the Hammer, Singh also qualified, again placing 12th. His best effort was 205’6″. There were a few other throwers with loose Oklahoma ties that qualified for Nationals.
